However we try not to think about that autumn is getting away we have to admit: we are very close to the Edinburgh Christmas Festive Events.

Scotland's capital has a feast of festive treats from wonderful, world class attractions, sparkling shopping, fabulous food and drink with the best shows, theatre and cultural events to keep you warm and busy this winter.

  • Disney’s The Lion King - Edinburgh Playhouse

The Lion King is a worldwide theatrical phenomenon, seen by over 70 million people. Enjoy the Scottish premiere of this spectacular production at the Edinburgh Playhouse. Dazzling staging and highly imaginative costumes, masks and puppets, The Lion King explodes with glorious colours and stunning effects.

  • Edinburgh Christmas - Light Night - 24th of November George Street

This year’s theme for Light Night, Christmas opening Ceremony is The Twelve Days of Christmas.

It’s an all-singing, all dancing extravaganza not to be missed, hosted by one of Edinburgh’s most familiar voices, Arlene Stuart from Forth One. This year we  have a very special guest turning on the Christmas lights: none other than six-times Olympic champion cyclist, Sir Chris HoySmile

 

  • European Christmas Market  22 November – 5 January

Mound Precinct and East Princes Street Gardens

For the past 20 years in the heart of Edinburgh, the popular Christmas Market has been held in its picturesque setting below the Mound. Now in 2013, the Christmas market stretches from the National Gallery across the Mound Precinct, along East Princes Street Gardens Terrace, around the Scott Monument and continues onto St Andrew Square.

The traditional and romantic Christmas Market in the heart of the City of Edinburgh offers a unique shopping experience for every visitor with its fair of various crafters, artists, gift shops and gastronomic surprises. Get into the Christmas feeling!

  • Children's Market - St Andrew Square

 Right in the heart of St Andrew Square, you’ll find the magical Children's Market playing host to a selection of festive, child-friendly shopping experiences, allowing children to be the main customer. With Edinburgh's Toys Galore on site, kids (and big kids) can choose from a range of quality toys - the perfect shopping destination for gifts and festive treats.

  • Edinburgh’s Scottish Market - St Andrew Square 

The Scottish Market in St Andrew Square is a winter showcase of the best food and drink Scotland has to offer.

The treats on offer will include traditional butteries with a contemporary twist, fresh fish and chips and a range of seafood to take away, Scottish brewed craft beer and much much more.  

 

  • Edinburgh Gang Show 2013

19th - 23rd of November, King's Theathre

Over 50 years of Scouts and Guides lighting up the King’s Biggest Gang Show in the world when hundreds of young people singing, dancing and having fun all the way......


  • Meet Santa at the Botanics

This December, Santa is coming to the Botanics.  Join him and his audience in the Garden’s enchanting grotto for some traditional festive story-telling. Each child will have the chance to meet Santa and they will also receive a small gift. Book early to avoid disappointment!

 

  • Family Festive Cinema - Scottish National Gallery

Escape the cold weather this Christmas and visit theScottish National Galleryfor some classic Christmas movies in the comfort of their own cinema. A fantastic affordable family day out - bring the kids along to watch family favourites such as Polar Express and Miracle on 34th Street.

 

  • Coca Cola Christmas Truck - Grassmarket 28th of November

The famous Coca-Cola Christmas truck is on its way around the country! Coca-Cola researched Great Britain’s Kindness Hotspots – the towns and cities that bring the most joy to others in the Christmas season.
